
The Blue Sea Film Festival celebrated this weekend has invited seven films made by our students to compete in the 17th edition of the Baltic Herring short film competition. The Blue Sea Film Festival shows films from the countries surrounding the Baltic Sea.Below the TAMK films at the festival. The Chainsaw Poet competes in the open category and the rest in the category for students from audiovisual schools.

Shot by first year students of Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Aarnipuu is a short film about Mikko - a full-time poet and an occasional lumberjack. He meets an activist girl underneath a big old tree he's supposed to chop off. Two different persons try to understand each other and are not so different after all.

The sixth Reikäreuna Film Festival will take place from September 9-12 2010 in Orivesi, Finland.The Film Competition received 104 entries, out of which 19 domestic short films were presented to the jury. A selection of the other entries will be presented at four thematically organised screenings.

Director/Script Writer Iiro Peltonen in action with Jose Viitala and Antti Väre"Brothers In Arms" - written and directed by Iiro Peltonen - was shot on the 19th of June in Pori, in the Fortress Park of Reposaari. In the short film two soldiers affectionate of each other find themselves in a dilemma when their own sexual derivatives do not meet.

Actor Raimo Grönberg, Outi Hartikainen and Hannu Koivuranta in ActionHaving received a 5000 euro production grant from the Languages Through Lenses 2010 -shortfilm competition "Connection Lost" went under production on the night of 2nd and 3rd of July. The film is directed by Outi Hartikainen and found its idyllic location in Lempäälä near Tampere.

The Reach (Loppuun palaneet) participated in the Uneton 48 - competition, where you have to write, shoot and finish a short film in 48 hours. It is a post-apocalyptic short film about a world, where the Sun is too close to Earth. The film asks the following questions:

Rajavartija (The Border Guard) is a short horror film that takes place in the border area of Finland and Russia. A man goes to work for the first day as a border guard. Soon, an old incident and a secret start to haunt him and the events lead to a brutal battle for survival.

Finding Frank is a warmhearted comedy-drama, which tells the story of 18-year-old Jussi and his journey at the brink of adulthood. Ville, Jussi's godfather, invites the youngster to his cabin, aiming to teach Jussi the way of responsibility and self-confidence. Against his will Jussi ends up in a situation where the modern-day temptations and fears gang up on him in the streets of a small town.

Welcome to the worst day in Kalle's life. The twenty-something Kalle just wants to play heavy-metal and go hunting with his friend, Niilo. These mundane dreams are forestalled by the family heirloom shotgun and Ylermö, the boy next door, who will stop at nothing to play in Kalle's band some day. Kalle's planned perfect day is ruined by unexpected turns in surprising forms, and Kalle must decide what is most important to him.

The directional debut of Jussi Sandhu and Ville Hakonen, "Whistle While You Work", has been chosen to the international competition of the 13th Brussels short film festival (29.4-9.5). It's nominated with 53 films from around the world and is one of the two Finnish films competing this year.

Seven-year-old Iiris is abandoned by her mother and thrust in the care of her relatives. The girl finds a safe haven from the world of adults in the company of her new raven friend in a cosy barn. Caring for the bird lands the girl in trouble with her relatives and she decides to run away.

A different kind of movie Kahvia ja tupakkaa – a pastiche to the famous movie Coffee and Cigarettes (2003) by Jim Jarmusch – was shot last autumn and now it’s the time to celebrate the premiere which is going to take place March 11 as a part of Tampere Film Festival.

Pirjo is a woman who demands pure perfection from herself as well as others. With unusual methods Pirjo is going to secure the future of her perfect genotype as well. This short film contemplates the modern demand for flawlessness which affects us all. An absurd story told with vivid comic-like images will definitely make the viewer think.

Chris Hales will be back again in Tampere to run a self-contained workshop about the 'interactive moving image' - involving the design and actual production of a prototype in which interactivity and video imagery are combined.
